You should be fine. We travelled one month after I switched employers using the AP I got while working for the old employer. No questions asked. But do carry all supporting documents and if asked about current employer, tell him the truth that you switched employers. Don't hide anything. Good Luck!

If i-485 has been pending for more than 6 months and I suddenly get laid off can i leave the country and come back when it's approved? Or can I leave the country and come back in a few months with or without job offer?
No you cant do that. One should not leave country when 485 pending. Once you laid off from sponsor you can not do counsural processing also. Travelling in AP should be for a mimimum period. It will be big mistake, if you leave country without job offer. No one knows when they issue RFE for employment verification during your 485 pending period. If you do not have job when they issue RFE, thats it. Bottomline is, it is better to be employed during 485 pending and stay in the country to reply any RFE.

Why and how do members get those green and red squares when they post messages? I do know red squares are bad since a mouseover shows the text that the member has had some bad behavior. However, I have seen various texts for green squares. Mine says "I'm on a distinguised road"...I had no idea I was on one, but I sure do hope it ends with a Green Card in hand! :)
Anyway, does anyone know all the different variations of text for green and red squares and how do they change for different members?

i just noticed your post. i am from portland, oregon. so count me in also. i had posted a message on the orgon state chapter a while ago and have not had a single response yet. Oracle applications, Oracle financials, Siebel, SAP are good fields to enter. Data warehousing is hot and a lot of people get trained. Consulting companies have fulltime trainers and there are a lot of courses you can take.
These are good end points. Start a little more basic to get good underpinnings.
I think, also, that if you don't know what you want to do, go for a BSc. in computer sci. If you do, take specific courses.
For system Admin, I'd recommend Redhat.com's courses. The world is going Linux. Play with it and mess it up. Re-install. All part of the fun. Hack some Bash/Perl scripts.
For coding I'd learn C first. Get good with pointers etc. Then learn Object Orientated PHP or Java. C isn't the easiest of languages, true. If you have problems, fall back to BASIC.
PHP and Java will get you started with web stuff and databases fairly quickly too. Start with Mysql. Then Postgresql. That'll get you ready for Oracle (the database) and you can then learn the applications that run on it.
If you learn the high end apps w/o learning the low end, you're code may be beautifully written but horribly inefficient.
They'll ask why an MBA/HR guy wants to be a grunt. Consider volunteering for an open source project for street cred. sourceforge.net has a bunch of projects.

Actually GC on L1 can be really much faster because GC processing on L1 comes under special EB1 category. So if you are willing to take risk of loosing job on L1. I will recommend to go for GC under L1.

to your home country and cannot transfer your visa. If it's H1 you can always do that.
If at all there is a difference in processing times for GC for L1, i don't see any drastic difference. Instead of 6 years it may be 5 years (6 years for GC? Are you kidding me?). No big deal.

You dont need to pay the fees, as it is USCIS mistake - Send the new application form with a cover letter, you can send it yourself.

I-140 withdrawal is not mandatory but it's good for both - employer and employee.

All immigration issues are handled by a big law firm - many of regular immigration matters are done by paralegals who does not know much (I am not exaggerating when I say I know more than them) - but our HR has a policy that they would follow what those attorney/paralegal is saying. It seems the law firm is suggesting them to withdraw all applications including approved i140 - obviously the law firm would charge them for this so that is their interest.

I was given an opportunity to become legal under the NACARA law but was to afraid of being deported like Maricela Soza was under the same law and didn�t go through with the entire process. I have both a husband and a son who are U.S. citizens but I am permanently prohibited by Immigration law from immigrating to the United States, while at the same time I am allowed to visit. Due to my drug convictions amounting to possession of more than one count of 30 grams of marijuana. It�s Immigration law�s contradicting policies which I find disturbing.
U.S. Immigration is concerned with their citizens� welfare but it is denying my husband�s and my son�s requests to have me back by their side for good. Although Immigration law will value my wish to receive admission into the United States. Needless to say I prefer returning, immigrating and remaining in the country by my family�s side. That�s not taking into account the fact that I am still homesick and continue experiencing culture shock in Nicaragua. What the Department of Homeland Security is doing to my family and I is cruel, inhumane and unpatriotic. No free country�s government has any business deciding how families should be formed or whose personal choice is agreeable or not. Like that of my son�s and husband�s choice to overlook my shortcomings and begin our lives over together again.
The 212(d)(3) Waiver allows a visitor�s visa into the U.S. to be issued to an Alien like me if I show evidence of rehabilitation such as becoming a practicing professional with a U.S. job offer. Sometimes with lone proof of a bank savings account, school registration and satisfactory travel record. I am in the same boat. I have recieved my 2nd EAD with wrong dates (validity dates same as my 1st EAD). Called USCIS and was told to fill out I-765 and along with the card and send it back to service center (w/o any fees).
Just curious if it worked out for you, as I am afraid that I don't want to re-start my 90-day clock all over again.

Although that the rule..I dont think USCIS actively follows it. The reason for that being the ombudsman report that states that the adjudicating officers pick low hanging fruit first (simple strforward cases) and that is reflected on where people have been getting their 485 approved within 90 days (which the ombudsman's report states is uscis's goal). right now the processing date is holding at 9 months. maybe to dissuade people from continously calling the NSC 1800 number.

here are the details:
when my employer got the RFE.. he asked me to send the following documents
# Previous company experience letters(from INdia)
#All Education certificates
# letter from the End client
# current resume
# w2 form
and he asked me to notarize all these documents. I sent all the requested documents except the end client letter, because my client said that its not their company policy to provide these type of letters.
There are two sub vendors between my client and employer. So I got a letter from one of the subvendor(he is in CA) that I am working in this company through them. In the letter he mentioned other sub vendor name also.
after sending these docs to USCIS ... My employer came back to me saying that he need more detailed documents.
# USCIS is doubting that I am working in CA not in NJ as the subvendor is from CA . But we provided the documents saying that I am working in NJ and I have filed my taxes from NJ only. I have my driving license from NJ.
# My employer filed H1b Amendment (filed in Aug 2007) saying that I work as a computer support specialist(eventhough I am working as a Systems Engineer) to support the salary pay. USCIS is saying that its not a H1B level job.
If I can tranafer my H1b to the main vendor , I will get a good pay and They can say I am working as Systems engineer which is h1b level job.
Can I transfer my H1 in this situation?. Please help.
